Cooling Peppermint Body Wash
A cooling body wash for summer and post-workout use, where the cold sensation is the product rather than a feature of it. Two things decide whether this works commercially: the menthol tier, which sets how strong the cooling reads and is a sensory decision made on sample rather than on paper, and the claim wording, because cooling language and therapeutic language sit on opposite sides of a regulatory line in the United States. Levels below are our standard ODM starting point, adjustable for your target market and price point.

Key Active Ingredients
How the Active Ingredients Work
The cooling comes from menthol, with tea tree carrying the fresh, clarifying character. Levels below are our standard ODM starting point, adjustable for your target market and price point.
Mentholbaseline 0.5% · range 0.3–1%
INCI: Menthol. It activates cold-sensing receptors in the skin, producing a cooling sensation with no actual temperature change. Our tiers are 0.05–0.3% for a light cooling edge, 0.3–1% with a 0.5% baseline for a body product where clear cooling is the selling point, and 1–3% for strong cold-sensation neck, shoulder and leg products. This SKU sits in the middle tier because the wash runs over a large surface area and toward the eyes in the shower, which is the main source of menthol complaints. In the US we describe menthol as a cooling sensation and nothing beyond that, since pain relief and anti-itch are drug claims. Separate EU restrictions apply to terpenes in products for children under three, so a kids-adjacent brief is a different formula rather than a relabel.
Tea Tree Oillow level
Melaleuca alternifolia oil, carrying the clarifying character and the ingredient-list recognition this category is bought on. The supportable claim set is soothing and oil-controlling: it helps balance surface sebum, gives a refreshing clean feel, supports pore cleansing, and helps visibly improve the look of congested, bumpy skin on the chest and back. What we do not write is antibacterial or antimicrobial, because that wording moves the product toward a biocidal or drug classification depending on the market. Level is kept conservative because tea tree is a known sensitiser and this wash covers a large surface area.
Mild surfactant systemprimary cleansing system
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate with Cocamidopropyl Betaine, specified to clear sweat and sebum without stripping, since the target user washes after exercise and often more than once a day. Sulfate-free on request, and the ratio can shift toward stronger cleansing for markets where the product sells on post-workout use.
Glycerinhumectant
Offsets the moisture loss any cleansing step causes, which matters more than usual here: a wash bought for its cooling hit is easy to over-specify on the sensory side and leave drying underneath. Used at a functional level rather than a token one.
Formulation & Customization Options
| Service model | ODM on our cooling wash base, or full OEM development |
| Cooling intensity | Light 0.05–0.3%, standard 0.3–1% with 0.5% baseline, or strong 1–3% for a dedicated cold-sensation line — set on the approved sample, since cooling cannot be judged on paper |
| Claim wording | Cooling, refreshing, soothing, oil-controlling and pore-cleansing are cosmetic wording in all our markets; pain relief, anti-itch and antibacterial are not, and we will flag any brief that drifts toward them before sampling rather than after |
| Adjustable elements | Menthol tier; tea tree level and grade; surfactant system and ratio; glycerin level; viscosity; fragrance direction. Where oil control is the lead claim rather than cooling, we can raise the tea tree and shift the surfactant ratio accordingly |
| Packaging | 500ml pump bottle standard; 5–10ml sachet for trial and gym channels; custom colour, print and secondary packaging |
| Certifications | ISO 22716, GMPC; SGS testing supported upon request. Halal, COSMOS and vegan-positioned formulations can be scoped to your requirement — tell us the destination market and certifying body and we will confirm feasibility before sampling. This base carries no animal-derived material. |
Who This Product Is Built For
Summer and post-workout positioning
Cooling is one of the few body-wash claims that can be felt on first use, which makes it easier to sell and easier to demonstrate than a claim that develops over weeks. Gym and sports channels take this format well, and the sachet works as a trial format there.
Hot-climate everyday ranges
In Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia a cooling wash is an everyday product rather than a seasonal one, so it can carry a permanent slot in a range rather than a summer listing.
Brands with an oil-prone body line
Pairs with a targeted lotion for customers whose concern goes beyond sweat and odour. The Oil Control Back Acne Body Lotion covers that position as the retained step, and the Cool Sculpt Firming Cream runs the same cooling logic at a higher menthol tier for a body-contouring range.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the MOQ and lead time?
MOQ is 2,000–3,000 bottles per SKU and production runs 35–45 days after sample approval, with sampling at 2–3 weeks.
How strong should the cooling be?
Stronger is not automatically better, and this is the decision to make on sample rather than on paper. Our standard tier for a body wash is 0.3–1% with a 0.5% baseline, which reads as clearly cooling without becoming the reason someone stops using the product. The 1–3% tier exists for dedicated cold-sensation leg and shoulder products where the skin is less reactive and the product is not running toward the eyes. We will send two tiers so you can feel the difference in a shower rather than judge it from a number.
Can we claim it soothes itching or relieves muscle pain?
We would advise against it and we write the copy on that basis. In the United States anti-itch and pain relief are OTC drug claims with their own monographs, so using that language changes the regulatory category the product has to meet rather than just the marketing. Cooling sensation, refreshing and post-workout language describe what the product genuinely does and are wording we can support in all our markets.
Can we say the tea tree is antibacterial?
No, and it is worth settling early because it comes up on most briefs in this category. An antibacterial or antimicrobial claim pushes the product toward a biocidal or drug classification depending on the market, which is a different registration route entirely. The wording we can support covers what customers actually buy it for: soothing and oil-controlling, balancing surface sebum, a refreshing clean feel, pore cleansing, and a visible improvement in the look of congested skin. Note these are appearance and feel claims rather than treatment claims — a blemish-treatment claim would need efficacy filing in China and moves toward OTC territory in the US, so we keep the copy on the cosmetic side of that line.
Is it suitable for children?
Not as it stands, and that is a formulation matter rather than a labelling one. Several EU member states apply specific restrictions to terpenes including menthol in products intended for children under three, so a kids or family version is scoped as a separate formula at a lower tier rather than the same product with different artwork. Tell us at the brief stage if a family SKU is part of the plan.
Will the cooling fade during storage?
Menthol is volatile, so the packaging and fill matter as much as the level in the formula. We specify closures that limit loss over shelf life and confirm the sensory profile on the approved sample through accelerated stability testing, which runs alongside the 35–45 day production window. If your route to market involves long unairconditioned transit, tell us early so the specification accounts for it.
