Niacinamidebaseline 3% · range 2–5%
Vitamin B3 and the primary brightening active. It works by interfering with the transfer of pigment from melanocytes into surrounding skin cells rather than by blocking pigment formation, which is why the visible result is a more even overall tone rather than one mark vanishing. We run it near the top of the main tier on this SKU because the whole proposition is same-day visible evenness at a value price, and niacinamide is the most cost-effective way to get there. Korea caps niacinamide at 5% in functional cosmetics, so our ceiling is set to keep one formula exportable across the region. Held above pH 5.0, since niacinamide hydrolyses toward nicotinic acid in acidic conditions and that shows up as flushing.

Included specifically because this mask targets acne marks, and the redness-to-brown progression of a healing spot runs through an inflammatory pathway that pigment-transfer actives do not fully address. It is a well-documented ingredient in that role. Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphatebaseline 1% · range 0.5–2%
A stable vitamin C derivative rather than pure ascorbic acid, and that choice is deliberate. L-ascorbic acid needs a low pH to stay active, which would collide directly with the pH above 5.0 that niacinamide requires, and it oxidises in a foil sachet over a two-year shelf life. MAP is comfortable at the higher pH and holds up in storage. It works on the oxidative side of pigmentation, complementing niacinamide rather than duplicating it, and it is one of the reasons this serum can stay pale rather than browning on the shelf.
Licorice root extract with hyaluronic acidextract, plus 0.1–0.5% total sodium hyaluronate
Glycyrrhiza extract as the supporting brightening extract, alongside a multi-weight sodium hyaluronate blend for the plumped finish. The extract is genuinely useful as a soothing and antioxidant contributor and it strengthens the ingredient list a buyer reads on pack, but we are clear that the measurable brightening work sits with the three actives above. Why four brightening actives instead of one at a higher level?
Because uneven tone does not arrive by a single route. Niacinamide works on pigment transfer, tranexamic acid on the inflammatory pathway behind post-acne marks, and the vitamin C derivative on the oxidative side. Pushing one active higher runs into a tolerance ceiling well before it addresses the other pathways, and on a ten-minute occlusive wear tolerance matters more than it does in a leave-on serum. That said, we can consolidate onto fewer actives if you want a simpler ingredient list for regulatory or cost reasons.
Can we say it fades dark spots or acne scars?
Not in those words, and the distinction is worth getting right before artwork. Fading and treating spots reads as a drug claim in the US, and whitening or spot-correction claims are a regulated functional claim requiring registration or evaluation in several Asian markets. What we write instead is that it visibly reduces the look of post-acne marks and helps even the appearance of skin tone. Why a vitamin C derivative rather than real vitamin C?
