Multi-Effect Sun Primer SPF50 (UV + Tone-Up)

A sun primer that combines SPF50 protection with light tone correction and a makeup-base function in one step. The commercial logic is Southeast Asian consumer demand for an all-in-one morning step, and the formulation discipline is making sure the multi-function claim does not quietly turn the product into something that needs a different registration.

How the Active Ingredients Work

Filter percentages are not published, because filters are market-regulated actives; we specify tested SPF50 on the finished product. The tone-up and primer functions are cosmetic and we describe them at the appearance level. Where brightening is claimed alongside SPF, that combination has registration consequences in some markets, and we flag which ones at the briefing stage.

UV filter systemSPF50 tested on finished product

A chemical filter blend built for a high-SPF primer that still sits smoothly under makeup. As across the range, the system is built against your destination market's permitted filter list and SPF is confirmed by in vivo testing on the finished product. A primer format adds a constraint the SPF number does not show: it has to grip makeup without pilling, which is a film-system decision made alongside the filter choice.

Niacinamidebaseline 3% · range 2–5% (headline tier)

INCI: Niacinamide. This is the headline tier for niacinamide, 2–5% with 3% as our baseline, which is where it belongs when brightening is part of what the product is sold on. The point to flag is regulatory rather than formulation: in China a product carrying both a brightening and a sun-protection claim can fall under two special-cosmetic categories at once, so the claim set is a registration decision, not just a marketing one. For Korea, note the 5% ceiling on niacinamide, which caps the top of this band.

Soft-focus / tone-up particlessystem note

The tone-up and pearl or soft-focus particles are what deliver the instant no-makeup finish, and this is an optical effect, not a treatment. We describe it as an immediate cosmetic tone correction that washes off, distinct from any active-driven brightening. Shade and level are set per project, and the effect is judged on sample against your target skin tones because tone-up reads very differently across a tonal range.

Hyaluronic Acidsupporting humectant

INCI: Sodium Hyaluronate. Included as a humectant so a multi-function morning product stays comfortable through the day, with the level set per project on sample. Its role here is wearability under makeup rather than a hydration headline, so we size it against the finish rather than to a published band.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we claim brightening and sun protection on the same product?

You can, but it has consequences worth planning for. In China a product making both a brightening and a sun-protection claim can trigger two special-cosmetic registration categories at once, which is slower and more expensive than either alone. In other markets it is simpler. We do not decide your claim set for you, but we will map which markets treat the combination as one filing and which as two before you commit.

Is the tone-up effect skincare or just makeup?

It is an optical effect that washes off, and we write it that way: an instant cosmetic tone correction, not an active-driven change to the skin. Keeping that distinction clear is what stops a primer from being read as a treatment product with a heavier claim burden. The niacinamide is the skincare active; the tone-up is the makeup function. They are described separately on purpose.

Why don't you list the filter percentages?

Because filters are regulated actives whose permitted list and maximum level differ by market, so a percentage without its regulatory context is misleading and implies a single global formula, which sunscreen never is. We publish tested SPF on the finished product; the quantitative filter breakdown goes into your registration dossier for each market.

Will an SPF primer pill under foundation?

That is the main risk in this format, and we test against it rather than hoping. Pilling comes from the interaction between the primer's film system and the makeup layered on top, so we check the finish under common foundations and adjust the film if it fails. Tell us the kind of base makeup your customer uses, because it changes what we optimise the film system for.

What are the MOQ and lead time?

MOQ is 2,000–3,000 bottles per SKU and lead time is 45–60 days including stability and in vivo SPF testing. If you are pursuing a dual brightening-plus-SPF registration in a market like China, budget additional time for that filing on top of the formula timeline. Our 13 lines run at 200,000 units per day, so volume is not the bottleneck; the registration is.
