How the Active Ingredients Work
Four parts do the work here: a low-charge amino acid surfactant base held at an acidic pH, a high argan oil ratio, a free amino acid complex for porous fibre, and vitamin E as the oil-phase antioxidant. The system below is our standard ODM starting point, adjustable for your target market and price point.
Low-charge amino acid surfactant systemprimary cleansing system
Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate with Cocamidopropyl Betaine, run deliberately low on anionic charge. This is the single most important choice on a colour-care shampoo: strongly anionic surfactants at an alkaline pH swell the cuticle and carry dye molecules out with the rinse water, and the effect compounds over a wash cycle. Reducing charge and holding pH down slows that transfer. It does not stop it, and we do not write copy suggesting it does — colour fade is inherent to washing, and what a shampoo can honestly claim is that it fades more slowly than a standard sulfate base.
High-ratio argan oilsurface lipid system
Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil at a higher ratio than our mass repair base carries, which is a large part of what separates the salon tier here. Argan is high in oleic and linoleic acids and sits largely on the fibre surface, delivering slip and a smoother light-reflecting surface rather than penetrating deeply. On repeatedly coloured hair the cuticle is porous and rough, so surface lipid does more for combability and shine than additional protein would. The trade-off at higher loads is rinse feel, so the level is set against your target hair type and confirmed at sampling.
Free amino acid complexfibre conditioning complex
A blend of small free amino acids including arginine and serine, which are low enough in molecular weight to diffuse into porous fibre where a hydrolysed protein would sit at the surface. Their function is water-binding inside a fibre that has lost its ability to hold moisture evenly, which is why coloured hair dries unevenly and looks dull in patches. This complements the keratin approach rather than replacing it: keratin works on the cuticle surface, free amino acids work inside the porosity. Added in the cool-down phase.
Vitamin Eoil-phase antioxidant
Tocopherol, present primarily to protect the argan oil in the formula from oxidation over shelf life, which is a real concern at the oil load this base runs. Any benefit to the hair fibre is secondary and we position it that way rather than as a hair-care active. Vitamin E is not listed in Annexes II, III, IV or VI of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, so the level is a formulation stability decision rather than a regulatory one, and it is confirmed against oil load during stability testing.

What is the minimum order quantity?
MOQ is 2,000–3,000 bottles per SKU, and the 5–10ml sachet carries its own separate minimum. For a salon-channel launch the sachet is usually a sampling tool handed out at the chair rather than a retail format, so tell us the intended use and we will quote the quantity split accordingly.
Can you claim it prevents colour fading?
We claim slower fade, not prevention, and the difference is not just cautious wording. Some dye leaves the fibre at every wash regardless of formula; what a shampoo controls is how much. A low-charge surfactant system at an acidic pH transfers less than a standard sulfate base at neutral pH, which supports comparative language such as helps colour look richer for longer. Prevention language would be unsupportable and is the kind of claim that draws challenge in the EU and UK.
What makes this different from your mass repair shampoo?
Three things, and they are worth understanding because they drive the cost difference. The surfactant system here is held at lower anionic charge and a lower pH specifically to slow dye transfer, which the mass base does not prioritise. The argan ratio is higher. And the fibre conditioning comes from free amino acids that diffuse into porous hair rather than hydrolysed keratin that deposits at the surface. If your consumer is heat-damaged rather than colour-damaged, the mass base is the better commercial fit.
Can you add UV protection for colour?
Yes, as an option. UV exposure contributes to colour fade independently of washing, and there are cosmetic filters suitable for a rinse-off hair product. Be aware this can affect how the product is classified and what documentation your notifier needs in some markets, since sun-protection wording is regulated separately from hair claims. We will confirm the route for your destination market before sampling rather than after.
How long does sampling and production take?
Expect 2–3 weeks for a sample round and 35–45 days of production after sign-off. On this tier the packaging is usually the longer pole: salon-style bottles and secondary packaging can outrun the bulk lead, so specify them alongside the formula rather than after sign-off.
