Premium (Fragrance)

Fragrance Long-Lasting Softening Body Lotion

A premium fragranced body lotion built for the gift-box channel, where the scent and the pack are doing most of the selling. The formula underneath is a shea-led softening base, and that is deliberate: a fragrance-forward product still has to feel expensive on application or the scent reads as cheap. The number that matters most here is the fragrance level, so it is worth understanding the band before you brief — heavier is not automatically better, and the more common mistake in this category is overdosing rather than underdosing.

How the Active Ingredients Work

Levels below are our standard ODM starting point, expressed as a share of the total formula on an as-supplied basis, and adjustable for your target market and price point.

Selected fragrance oilsbaseline 1% · range 0.5–2%

The product, essentially, and quoted on the compounded fragrance oil basis. Baseline 1% with a range of 0.5–2% is the industry band for a retained body lotion, and the top of that range is already a strong scent on skin rather than a compromise. Going higher does not produce better longevity; it produces a product that feels heavy in the first ten minutes and can raise the allergen declaration burden on your label. Longevity is more a function of accord construction and the base holding it than of raw dose, which is why we would rather spend a sampling round on the accord than push the percentage.

Shea Buttergenerous load in the oil phase

Set higher than we would use on a value-tier lotion, because a gift product has to feel substantial the moment it goes on. Shea also serves the fragrance directly: an oil phase with body holds top notes longer than a thin lotion does, so the richness and the longevity claim are connected rather than separate decisions. The trade-off is absorption time, and we tune it to feel rich going on but not to leave a film — that balance is the main thing to settle with samples.

Hyaluronic acidrange 0.1–0.5% total sodium hyaluronate

Assist tier and high molecular weight, which is the correct choice for a body product regardless of price tier since contact time is short and the skin is thicker. Capped at 0.5% total because a premium lotion that turns tacky in warm weather undermines the whole positioning, and stickiness reads as cheap far faster than a light finish does.

Vitamin E (Tocopherol)tocopherol in the oil phase

More load-bearing here than in most formulas, because both the shea and a complex fragrance accord oxidise, and the first sign a customer notices is an off note in the scent rather than anything on their skin. Protecting the oil phase protects the fragrance, which on a gift product that may sit unopened for months is a practical concern rather than a theoretical one. We describe it as a stability function, not as an anti-ageing active.

Softening emollient baseemollient system with glycerin as the humectant

The rest of the base, built to give the after-feel the softening claim rests on. Glycerin is the workhorse humectant and used at a functional level rather than a token one. Supportable wording is skin that feels softer and smoother with continued use; we keep it there rather than at any barrier repair or anti-ageing framing, which this product does not need and could not support.

Formulation & Customization Options

Fragrance levelBaseline 1% within 0.5–2% for a retained body lotion; we would advise against exceeding 2%, since it adds allergen declaration burden without improving longevity
AccordWork from your reference sample, from a description, or from our house accords; matching an existing fragrance you already sell is routine
RichnessShea ratio sets the profile — richer suits the gift positioning and holds top notes longer, lighter suits year-round tropical channels
Adjustable elementsEmollient system composition; glycerin level; hyaluronic acid within 0.1–0.5%; optional shimmer or pearlescent effect for the gift tier
PackPremium pump bottle at 300ml or 500ml, gift-box ready; the 300ml is the more common gift size and the 500ml the self-purchase size

Who This Product Is Built For

Gift-box and seasonal ranges

Scent-led body lotion is one of the few personal-care formats that sells reliably as a gift, and the pack matters as much as the formula. Running two or three accords in one launch gives a range enough shelf presence to justify a gift set without multiplying the formulation work.

Brands with a value tier already running

This sits above a mass fragranced lotion rather than replacing it. The Rose Bloom Natural Body Lotion covers the 500ml value-hero slot, and the two together give a range a clear good-better structure at the same MOQ band.

Fragrance lines extending into body care

If you already sell an eau de toilette, a matching body lotion is the natural line extension and the accord work is largely done. The lotion band at 0.5–2% is far below an EDT at 5–15%, so expect the character to read softer on skin — that is normal for the format and not a dilution of the accord.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do we make the scent last longer?

Not by raising the percentage, which is the usual first instinct. Longevity comes from accord construction, particularly the base note structure, and from an oil phase with enough body to hold it, which is why the shea ratio is part of this conversation. Pushing fragrance above 2% on a body lotion gives you a heavy opening, a larger allergen declaration and no real gain in wear time. We would rather spend a sampling round on the accord.

What fragrance level should we choose?

Baseline 1% covers most briefs, within a 0.5–2% band for a retained body product. For reference, the same house accord would sit at 0.5–1.5% in a body wash, 1–3% in a body mist and 5–15% in an eau de toilette — so a lotion at 1% is not a weak build, it is the correct build for the format. If the brief is a very lightly scented daily product, 0.5% is a legitimate choice rather than a cost saving.

Do we need to declare fragrance allergens?

In the EU, yes, where any of the listed fragrance allergens exceed 0.001% in a retained product they must appear in the ingredient list, and the list expanded substantially under Regulation 2023/1545. This is a real reason not to overdose the fragrance: a higher level can turn a clean label into a long one. We provide the allergen breakdown for the accord you choose so your label copy is right the first time.

Can you match a fragrance we already sell?

Usually yes, and it is one of the more routine requests we handle. Send a reference sample if you have one, or a description of the accord and the direction if you do not. Where an exact match is not achievable we will say so rather than ship something close and let you discover it at first production.

What is the MOQ and lead time?

MOQ is 2,000–3,000 bottles per SKU and lead time is 35–45 days after sample approval. Sampling runs 2–3 weeks. Each fragrance counts as a separate SKU against the MOQ because the accord goes in at the compounding stage, so a three-scent gift range is three SKUs, not one.

What certifications come with it?

Manufacturing is ISO 22716 and GMPC compliant, with SGS testing on request. Halal, COSMOS and Vegan are arranged per your target market rather than held as standing certifications, and on a fragranced product the constraint usually lands on the accord itself, so raise it before we start accord work rather than after.
