TURMERIC BRIGHTENING

A rinse-off scrub that pairs turmeric and rice powder with a low level of lactic acid, built on the Southeast Asian brightening ritual but formulated for export. Two things make it different from the rest of our scrub line: turmeric is a staining risk that has to be engineered around, and the acid puts the product under market-specific labelling rules that a plain sugar scrub never touches.

How the Active Ingredients Work

This is the one scrub in our range where the acid, not the granule, decides what you can legally say and where you can sell it. The AHA figure is set against your destination market rather than quoted as a single global number, because the accepted level in Europe is roughly a quarter of what the United States allows. The baseline below is our standard ODM starting point, adjustable for your target market and price point.

Turmeric powderbaseline 2% · range 1–5% (particle and colour load)

INCI: Curcuma Longa Root Powder. Carries both the colour story and part of the mechanical polish, which is why the number moves with your visual brief rather than a functional target. Loading is the main driver of staining risk alongside the oil phase carrying it, so we confirm colour and rinse-off behaviour together on sample rather than treating them as separate questions.

Rice powderbaseline 5% · range 3–10%

INCI: Oryza Sativa Powder. The gentlest exfoliant grade we work with, included so the product can carry an acid without the combined intensity becoming too much for regular use. It gives a fine polishing action rather than a vigorous scrub, and the level is set against the turmeric load so the total particle content stays comfortable.

AHA (Lactic Acid)low level, set per destination market — see FAQ

INCI: Lactic Acid. We do not publish a single global figure for this one. In the EU the reference point is the SCCNFP opinion on alpha-hydroxy acids, which puts lactic acid at up to 2.5% at pH 5.0 or above; in the US the CIR position cited by the FDA runs to 10% at finished pH 3.5 or above. Those are two different numbers for the same ingredient, so we formulate to whichever applies to where you are selling and confirm the level with you before sampling.

Honeysupporting humectant

INCI: Honey. Included for the humectant and sensory side rather than as an active, and it also softens how the acid reads on skin. Level set per project. Worth flagging early if you need a vegan claim, since this is the ingredient that blocks it and swapping it out changes the texture.

Coconut Oilsupporting emollient

INCI: Cocos Nucifera Oil. The carrier for the turmeric and the reason the product rinses as a treatment rather than an abrasive. Its level interacts directly with staining behaviour, so on this product the oil phase is a colour-control decision as much as a skin-feel one.

Glycerinsupporting humectant

Standard humectant, included to keep skin from feeling stripped after a physical scrub combined with an acid. Level moves with the rest of the water phase, so we do not attach a public figure to it.

Who This Product Is Built For

Southeast Asian brightening lines with export ambitions

The ritual positioning travels well, but the acid does not travel on one spec. Brands selling across ASEAN and into the EU or US at the same time normally end up with two acid levels on one visual identity, and that is easier to plan at the brief stage than to retrofit later.

Brands that need a texture claim, not just a fragrance

Most of our scrub line sells on scent and scrub feel. This one is the option when the product has to stand behind a visible-texture story, since the acid gives it something to work with over repeated use rather than a single-session smooth.

Short-form video and before-after content

Turmeric colour, the traditional-meets-modern angle, and rough-skin before-and-afters all perform on short-form video, and the colour makes the product visually distinctive without a production budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

What AHA level should we specify?

Tell us the market first and the number follows from it. In the EU the working reference is the SCCNFP opinion on alpha-hydroxy acids, which puts lactic acid at up to 2.5% at pH 5.0 or above — an expert committee position rather than an Annex III limit, since AHAs are not restricted substances under the EU cosmetics regulation. In the US the CIR conclusion cited by the FDA allows up to 10% at a finished pH of 3.5 or above. That is a fourfold difference for the same ingredient, which is why a single global figure would be wrong for somebody. We formulate to your destination market and confirm the level before sampling.

Does an AHA change our label?

In the US, yes. FDA guidance asks for a sunburn alert on AHA products, stating that the product contains an alpha hydroxy acid that may increase sun sensitivity, and directing users to sunscreen, protective clothing and limited sun exposure during use and for a week afterwards. This is not a formality: FDA research found sensitivity to UV reddening rose about 18% after four weeks of use and sensitivity to UV cellular damage roughly doubled, though the effect reversed within a week of stopping. We supply the wording with the artwork pack, and if the labelling is a problem for your channel the acid-free version is the cleaner route.

What claims can we make on this product?

Exfoliation, the appearance of smoother and more even-looking skin, and surface renewal over repeated use. We hold the line short of treats, whitens, lightens or fades — skin-lightening claims put a product in drug territory in the US, and brightening or spot-correcting claims require efficacy filing in China. The claim frame, not the formula, is what usually gets listings in this category taken down, so it is worth setting deliberately at the brief stage.

What is the MOQ and lead time?

MOQ is 2,000–3,000 jars per SKU, produced in 35–45 days after sign-off. Scrubs sit at the longer end of our body care lead times because a thick product carrying suspended granules fills more slowly than a lotion. The 30-50g trial sachet runs to its own minimum and can be quoted alongside the jar.

Will the turmeric stain skin, towels or the packaging?

This is the right question to ask about any turmeric product, and it is a formulation problem we solve rather than a risk you accept. Staining depends on the turmeric grade and loading, the oil phase carrying it, and rinse-off behaviour. We adjust all three and confirm the result during sampling. We also test the jar itself, since turmeric can discolour some plastics over shelf life — worth knowing before you commit to a clear jar that shows the product.

Can we adjust the turmeric level and granule size?

Both are adjustable and they do different jobs. Turmeric loading drives the colour and the visual story; granule size decides whether the product reads as a gentle polish or a vigorous scrub, and it is one of the clearest positioning levers you have. Tell us which end of that range your customers expect and we will build samples at two grades so you can feel the difference.

How does the AHA work alongside the physical exfoliation?

The rice and turmeric powders give immediate mechanical polish; the lactic acid works on skin surface renewal over repeated use. Combining both is what lets a scrub address dullness and rough, bumpy-looking texture rather than just smoothing the surface once. Acid level is set within the limits of your destination market, and we keep the combined intensity balanced so the product suits regular use rather than being a single aggressive treatment.

Is a clear or frosted jar better for this product?

A clear jar sells the turmeric colour and the visible granules, which is most of this product's shelf appeal, and a frosted finish with the golden scheme reads more premium. The practical trade-off is that a clear jar also shows any settling or discolouration, so if you choose clear we will pay particular attention to granule suspension and colour stability during sampling. Either way a wide opening is required for a product this thick.
