How the Active Ingredients Work
Five parts do the work: a ceramide complex for barrier feel, a hyaluronic acid system for the cushioned finish, shea butter at a deliberately controlled ratio, peptides for the firmness appearance claim, and an antioxidant complex. Ceramide complexbaseline 0.3% · range 0.1–0.5%
Ceramide NP with supporting fatty acids and cholesterol. This is the ingredient that justifies an overnight positioning rather than a daytime one, since the barrier lipid replenishment argument is a slow, cumulative one and eight hours of occlusion is where the format has a genuine advantage over a mask worn for ten minutes. Ceramides are structural lipids skin already uses, so what they buy is a smoother surface feel and better water retention overnight. The constraint on level is solubility rather than cost: ceramides need a carrier system to stay dispersed, and pushing them higher in a gel-cream base risks a grainy texture that customers read as separation.
Hyaluronic acid system with panthenol0.2–0.6% total sodium hyaluronate
A multi-weight sodium hyaluronate blend with panthenol, and the level runs a little higher here than in our sheet mask formulas because a jar product does not have the unfolding problem that limits a saturated sheet. This is the system doing most of the work on the immediate cushioned feel that makes the first application convincing. We describe it as surface water-binding and immediate plumped appearance rather than as hydration at depth, since the high molecular weight fraction does not meaningfully penetrate.
Shea buttercontrolled ratio, set by finish
Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, and the level here is a positioning decision more than a formulation one. Shea delivers the occlusive film and the rich initial feel a sleeping mask is judged on, but a tropical-market consumer sleeping in humidity tolerates far less of it than a temperate-market one, and too much is the single most common complaint on this format — residue on the pillow and a greasy face by morning. We set the ratio against your target market and confirm it at sampling rather than working to a fixed number, and the same base can be taken markedly lighter as a gel or richer as a balm.

Signal peptides such as acetyl hexapeptide-8 and palmitoyl tripeptide-1, run at the upper half of our range because unlike a rinse-off or ten-minute format this one gets eight hours of contact every night, which is the exposure profile peptides actually need. The claim is still written carefully: supporting a firmer-looking, smoother appearance over weeks of use, never building collagen or reducing wrinkles, which cross into physiological claims regulated differently market to market. Antioxidant complexbaseline 0.5% · range 0.2–1%
Tocopherol with supporting antioxidants, and it does two jobs that are worth separating. In the formula it protects the shea and the oil phase from oxidising over shelf life, which is a real stability function in a hot market rather than a marketing inclusion. On skin the defensible claim is antioxidant support and the appearance of less fatigued skin by morning — what we do not write is that it repairs overnight damage or detoxifies, which are not claims we can stand behind.

What is the MOQ and lead time?
Minimum is 2,000–3,000 jars per SKU, which is a different commercial shape from our sheet masks — those run 5,000–10,000 sheets and each sheet is one use, while a jar covers 20 to 30. Bulk production takes 45–55 days once the sample is signed off, and a custom sample round needs 2–3 weeks before that. Jar tooling and decoration are the usual long pole on this format, so if you want custom glass, start that in parallel with the formula rather than after sign-off.
How is this different from a night cream?
Commercially it is positioning; technically it is the perceived weight at the moment of application. A sleeping mask has to feel more substantial than a moisturiser or it does not read as a treatment, which is why the oil phase and the humectant load are both set higher than we would use in a daily cream. Where we are careful is not confusing that with occlusion for its own sake: a heavier film is not automatically better overnight, and past a point it just transfers to the pillow.
Will it feel too heavy in a humid market?
That is the main formulation risk on this format and it is worth being blunt about. The shea ratio in a reference product designed for a temperate market is usually too high for a consumer sleeping in Manila or Jakarta, and residue on the pillow is the complaint that generates returns. We set the oil load against your specific target market and confirm the finish at sampling, and the base can go markedly lighter as a gel without losing the treatment feel.
Can we claim it firms skin or reduces wrinkles overnight?
Firming and wrinkle-reduction wording crosses into physiological claim territory, which is regulated differently market to market and treated as a functional cosmetic claim requiring registration in several. Overnight is the part that needs the most care: peptides need weeks of repeated use to show anything measurable, so a single-night firming claim is not defensible even where the wording would be. What we support is a smoother, firmer-looking appearance over continued use, plus the immediate plumped look on the morning after.
Why a jar rather than a tube or pump?
The jar suits the ritual and the scoop is part of what customers are buying on this format, so it is usually the right commercial call. The technical trade-off is real though: a jar exposes the product to air and to fingers in a way a tube does not, so the preservative system is specified for jar use from the start rather than carried over from a tube formula. How stable is it in a hot market?
