Key Active Ingredients
How the Active Ingredients Work
This is a single-species essential oil supplied undiluted at 100%, not a blended massage oil. The decision a buyer actually makes here is which cedarwood, because the two commercial types are different materials at very different prices, not two grades of one thing.
Juniperus Virginiana Oil (Virginian)100%, undiluted
INCI: Juniperus Virginiana Oil. Our standard grade, steam-distilled from wood, and dominated by cedrol and thujopsene. This is the dry pencil-shaving note most briefs are describing when they ask for cedarwood, and it holds through a long treatment. Botanically it is a juniper rather than a true cedar, which is worth knowing if your market requires the botanical name on pack.
Cedrus Atlantica Bark Oil (Atlas)100%, undiluted, premium grade
INCI: Cedrus Atlantica Bark Oil. A true cedar, softer and more resinous, with a sweeter balsamic edge. It costs substantially more per kilo and supply is tighter, since Atlas cedar is a protected species in parts of its range and material has to come with valid documentation. We quote it separately and will confirm which type any sample was distilled from.
Storage and handlingnot applicable
The heavy sesquiterpenes in cedarwood make it one of the more stable oils on the shelf, and it tolerates warmth better than a citrus. Supplied in amber glass with no antioxidant added; adding one would make it a formulation rather than a pure oil.

Who This Product Is Built For
Mens grooming and unisex blends
Cedarwood is the workhorse woody note for male-oriented ranges. Buying it undiluted lets a brand set its own strength across a shampoo, a beard oil, and a body product from one raw material.
SPA operators buying bulk
Treatment rooms that dilute on site and want a masculine option on the menu. Undiluted supply is cheaper per treatment and lets the therapist adjust by service.
Blending houses needing a base note
Cedarwood anchors a blend and slows the whole scent down. Consistent species and a documented profile matter more here than a finished-product narrative.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which cedarwood do I get, and why is the price gap so wide?
Our standard is Virginian (Juniperus virginiana), which delivers the dry woody note most briefs describe at a workable cost. Atlas (Cedrus atlantica) is a true cedar, softer and more resinous, and costs substantially more with tighter supply and species documentation requirements. They are different materials rather than grades of the same one, so we quote them separately and state which one a sample came from.
Is it diluted?
No. Supplied at 100% with no carrier, antioxidant, or additive. If you would rather receive a ready-to-use massage oil, contract blending is a separate quotation.
Do we need to declare fragrance allergens?
Assess it per market on your finished product. Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 requires listed fragrance allergens above 0.001% in a leave-on product to be declared, and Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/1545 widened that list considerably. Cedarwood is a lower contributor than the florals and citrus oils, but the answer depends on your dilution and on what else is in the blend, so we supply the lot breakdown for the calculation.
Can you guarantee an identical scent every year?
Not identical, and no honest supplier will promise it. Cedarwood is distilled from wood of varying age and origin and the profile moves. We buy to a defined species and profile window and send GC data per lot so any drift is visible rather than hidden.
