Key Active Ingredients

How the Active Ingredients Work

An eau de parfum built at 15–20% oil load with an oriental floral, woody, and amber construction for evening wear. The concentration tier is the defining specification on this page: it is roughly double an eau de toilette, and that changes the cost structure, the IFRA calculation, and the maceration time rather than simply making the same scent louder.

Fragrance Oil (Parfum)baseline 15% · range 15–20% (EDP tier)

INCI: Parfum. The EDP band runs 15–20% of the finished formula, with baseline 15% as the standard build. This is roughly twice the oil load of an eau de toilette, which is what produces the projection and the trail an evening fragrance is bought for. Two consequences follow that are easy to underestimate: the oil becomes the dominant cost line in the formula, and restricted materials that were comfortable at EDT concentration can move into IFRA restriction at this tier, so the compliance calculation has to be redone rather than carried over.

Oriental floral and amber basethe accord construction

An oriental construction is built on base notes — resins, balsams, vanillic and amber materials, woods — rather than on a bright opening. Those materials are heavy and substantive, which is why the style holds on skin and on fabric for hours. Amber itself is an accord rather than a single ingredient, typically built from labdanum, benzoin, vanillin, and woody materials. Note that ambergris is not used: the natural material is legally and ethically constrained and the commercial amber note is a reconstruction.

Woody and musk materialspart of the base

Sandalwood, patchouli, and synthetic musks give the fixative structure that carries the fragrance through an evening. Several are IFRA-restricted, and at 15–20% total oil the headroom is genuinely narrower than on a lighter product — this is the tier where a compliant accord sometimes has to be rebalanced rather than simply diluted. Modern musks are synthetic; natural musk is not used in commercial perfumery.

Alcohol Denat.the balance of the formula

INCI: Alcohol Denat. Cosmetic-grade ethanol with water adjusting the final strength. At a higher oil load the alcohol proportion falls, which changes the spray character noticeably: an EDP sprays denser and wetter than an EDT and sits closer to the skin on application. The permitted denaturant and the alcohol duty treatment vary by destination and are settled at quotation.

Solubiliser and clarity systemadjusted to the oil load

Holding 15–20% oil clear in a hydroalcoholic base is harder than at the EDT tier, and resinous oriental materials are among the least cooperative. The solubiliser is dosed to the specific compound and the batch is chill-filtered before filling. Some oriental accords will not go fully clear at all, in which case a coloured or opaque bottle is the correct answer rather than pushing the formula until the scent is compromised.

UV filter and antioxidant for the juicelow level, functional

Protects the fragrance rather than the skin. Oriental and amber juices are naturally deep in colour, and while that hides yellowing better than a pale floral does, the resinous materials still shift under prolonged light and heat. A heavy clear glass bottle is the premium look and the least protective option, which is why light protection through tinting, coating, or a full carton is worth specifying on a product built to sit on a dressing table.

IFRA compliance and allergen declarationcalculated on the finished formula at 15–20%

This is the point that most differentiates an EDP from an EDT commercially. IFRA limits apply to the finished product at its actual concentration, so an accord cleared at 8% cannot be assumed compliant at 15%. We run the calculation at the tier you are actually building and issue the certificate accordingly. Oriental accords are also allergen-dense — coumarin, eugenol, benzyl benzoate, and benzyl cinnamate are common — so expect a substantial 26-allergen declaration, reported per lot.

Formulation & Customization Options

Concentration tierEDP at baseline 15% within a 15–20% range as standard; the same accord can be filled at EDT strength for a daytime flanker or built toward parfum strength at 20–30% for a limited edition
Fragrance directionNotes are customisable — the oriental can lean sweeter and more gourmand or drier and more resinous, and the woody base can be weighted for a more unisex reading
Clarity and colourFiltered clear where the accord allows it; where resinous materials resist, a tinted or opaque pack is specified rather than compromising the scent
PackagingHeavy glass bottle as standard, drawn from the pack formats we run in production, with light protection specified through tinting, coating, or carton
Fill sizes50 ml as standard, with 30 ml available; 1–3 ml vials and 10 ml travel sprays, which matter more at this price point because the bottle is a considered purchase

Who This Product Is Built For

Brands adding a premium tier to an existing range

An EDP is the standard way to put a higher price point above an EDT line without developing a new brand position. If you already have a daytime scent selling, this is the format that raises average order value.

Nightlife and occasion-led positioning

Oriental and amber constructions are bought for presence, and the 15–20% tier is what delivers it. This is one of the few briefs where recommending the higher concentration is a formulation judgement rather than an upsell.

Gulf and Southeast Asian premium channels

Oriental and amber directions have deep established preference across the Gulf and among premium Southeast Asian buyers, where lighter Western-style florals often underperform. The tier and the style are matched to that demand.

Brands planning a flanker strategy

One approved accord filled at three concentrations gives a mist, an EDT, and an EDP from a single development spend. Starting from the EDP and stepping down is generally the better sequence, since an accord built to work at high concentration also works diluted.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the actual difference between your EDT and EDP?

Fragrance oil concentration, and everything that follows from it. Our EDT band is 5–15% with baseline 8%, and the EDP band is 15–20% with baseline 15%. Roughly double the oil means more projection, a longer trail, and a higher cost per bottle, since the oil is the dominant input at this tier. It also means longer maceration before filling and a fresh IFRA calculation, because compliance is assessed at the concentration you actually build.

Can we use our existing EDT accord at EDP strength?

Usually, but it has to be re-checked rather than assumed. IFRA limits apply to the finished product, so a restricted material sitting comfortably at 8% total oil can exceed its limit at 15%. Sometimes the accord needs rebalancing. We run the calculation at your target tier before the sample goes out.

How long does an EDP last on skin?

Longer than an EDT, and an oriental construction longer than a citrus or light floral, because the base materials are heavy and substantive. We will not print a fixed hour count on a label — it varies with skin, climate, and application site, and it is exactly the kind of specific claim that generates complaints. Describing it as an evening fragrance with a lasting trail is accurate and defensible.

Is there real amber or ambergris in it?

No, and neither would be expected in a commercial fragrance. Amber in perfumery is an accord built from materials such as labdanum, benzoin, vanillin, and woods rather than a single natural ingredient. Ambergris is legally and ethically constrained and is not used. The same applies to musk: the materials in modern perfumery are synthetic.

Why is the sample lead time longer than on your other fragrances?

Maceration. A high oil load needs longer for the materials to marry, and an EDP judged straight after blending smells raw and unbalanced compared with the same juice a few weeks later. We allow 3–4 weeks for the finished sample against 2–3 on lighter concentrations, and the 45–55 day production lead time includes the stability window. Compressing it is how a fragrance ships smelling wrong.

Can we claim it is seductive, or that it attracts attention?

Positioning language about occasion and mood is normal in fragrance marketing and we are not going to police your creative. What we will not supply is wording implying a physiological or pheromonal effect on other people, which is unsupportable and attracts regulatory attention in several markets. Describing the scent and the occasion works; asserting an effect on other people does not.
